Lancashire Constabulary are looking to recruit numerous Chief Superintendents across both Detective and Uniformed portfolios. Applications are invited from substantive Superintendents for promotion to the rank of Chief Superintendent and substantive Chief Superintendents looking for a lateral move to Lancashire Constabulary.

We are looking for candidates who have substantial experience of leading teams to deliver an outstanding policing service to the public, along with high levels of operational credibility with the drive to lead the Constabulary’s responses to policing challenges.

Working to support the Chief Officer Team, the successful candidate must be a dynamic and effective leader who can demonstrate ability to connect with officers, staff, and stakeholders and drive continuously to improve their areas of business. They will have a track record of supporting and developing others and be committed to creating an inclusive working environment that enables the Constabulary to deliver the highest standards of policing in which our communities have trust and confidence.

The successful candidate will be part of the 'gold' rota with the Chief Officer Team, they will be expected to undertake the role of Strategic Firearms Commander and Public Order Gold Commander.

Application and Interview Process

As part of this process, there will be Familiarisation Day on Tuesday 16th September 2025, 09:00am - 16:00pm, at Hutton Headquarters or via MS TEAMs. This is for both internal and external candidates to attend and it is a great opportunity to meet our Chief Officer Team and Lancashire Constabulary Staff, to see how the force operates and learn about our Chief Superintendent roles.

All submitted applications will be shortlisted on Thursday 2nd October 2025. Those successful following the paper sift will be invited to undertake an Internal Stakeholder Panel on either Thursday 9th October or Friday 10th October at Hutton Headquarters. 

Candidates will be invited to attend a TEAMs meeting on Friday 3rd October 2025 at 13:00pm, prior to the Stakeholder Panel to explain the format of the day. The topic of discussion for the panel will also be shared at the TEAMs meeting.

Candidates will then undertake an interview and briefing exercise with Senior Officers and Staff at Hutton Headquarters on either Monday 13th or Tuesday 14th October 2025.

Candidates will be assessed against Competency Values Framework (CVF) Level 3, Senior Leader / Executive throughout this process (application form, briefing, and interview).

Qualifications

Those applicants wishing to apply for the role of Detective Chief Superintendent must be PIP3 qualified or have completed the PIP3 course and be working towards qualification. 

The successful candidate will be part of the 'gold' rota with the Chief Officer Team, they will be expected to undertake the role of Strategic Firearms Commander and Public Order Gold Commander.

  • Internal Stakeholder Panel: Thursday 9th or Friday 10th October 2025 at Hutton Headquarters (successful candidates will be sent a TEAMs link for Friday 3rd October 2025 at 13:00pm for a Stakeholder Panel Briefing)
  • Interview & Briefing: Monday 13th or Tuesday 14th October 2025 at Hutton Headquarters
