Special Constable New Recruit - Volunteer Police Officer Opportunities - Starting February 2026
Are you someone who has always dreamt of becoming a Police Officer however, your day job has taken you in a different direction?
Special Constables are volunteer police officers and have been around for over 190 years after being formed in 1831! As you can imagine the role has evolved over the years and now is an integral part policing across England, Scotland and Wales, even internationally in countries like the United States and Canada. We always say being part of history is something amazing and joining up to being a Special Constable is certainly that.
Special Constables come from all walks of life, we currently have: teacher, taxi drivers, accountants and secretaries all working for the Special Constabulary.
If any of the above is for you, then you will love the role of Special Constable and here is why:
- Your time is precious therefore, you only need to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours a month.
- Put you through Personal Safety Training that will keep you and others safe.
- Invest in training to equip you with law, process and policy
- Give you the same warranted powers and uniform as regular officers.
- Make sure you are supported, cared for and have regular catch ups with your supervisor.
- Get the opportunity to be involved in a variety of policing needs from response, neighbourhood and local/ national events.

Interviews (Microsoft Teams) - W/C 20th October
Pre-Employment Evening - 12th November (4.30 - 8pm) - Police Headquarters, Winsford.
Start Date - 7th February 2026
Please be aware, the training schedule for the February 2026 intake is yet to be finalised but the training will be held during weekends. Please ensure you are available for the first 14 weekends after the start date to complete the training. Once the training schedule has been finalised this will be sent via email to candidates.
