The role
You will support the Strategy Directorate, Director and their Teams on a day-to-day basis, driving the delivery of the New Met for London Plan across the organisation. This is a fast-paced role in an incredibly rewarding part of the MPS. Given how closely Transformation and Strategy work together, you will be asked to work and support across both directorates.
The role will provide you with a range of opportunities and experiences, it will require you to manage competing short-term deadlines at pace, while driving slow burn projects across the directorate and broader group.
The role will also require you to work closely with and alongside Strategy professionals and operational policing colleagues to help shape the priorities and work of the group. Day to day, you will work closely and directly with the Strategy Director and help him to plan his business, represent him in meetings, and make sure his priorities are delivered across the group.
You will act on behalf of the Director to deal with issues using judgement and experience to resolve day to day problems. You will need to balance competing priorities and use attention to detail to identify risks and manage or escalate those effectively. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with little oversight or direction. You will create strong relationships across the Senior Leadership Team within the directorate and beyond to help identify and mitigate issues, and work effectively with corporate structures and teams to manage and share information effectively.
Working closely with the Business Manager in Strategy & Transformation Group (who will line manage this position), you will use judgement to plan and deliver discrete projects, identifying and drawing in resources as required
To succeed, you will be a motivated self-starter, with experience of working in a delivery or strategic environment, and will be comfortable working at pace in a large organisation. You will be equipped with the interpersonal skills needed to build positive relationships, and influence, negotiate and challenge successfully across a range of internal and external stakeholders and partners. Experience of working in, or closely with, a Private/Staff Office environment is beneficial.
You will matrix manage the Executive Support staff in the Directorate. You will form part of the group private office team, and be expected to support the leadership of that function.
As the work of the group and directorate is dynamic, you will need to be adaptable to change, and elements of your role may change over time. It is worth noting in particular that you may be tasked with supporting across both strategy and transformation directorates, and you will be expected to contribute to the wider private office in the group and support the Chief of Staff.
The role maintains a working relationship on management level with both internal and external stakeholders with regular monthly, weekly and daily meetings and ad hoc conversations
