We are seeking a qualified Law Accountant who will be responsible for the provision of a high-quality service to independently review all fee notes and itemised invoices received by the Scottish Police Authority/Police Scotland from the firms of solicitors instructed to act on behalf of officers or staff involved in relevant existing legal proceedings or new cases.

As the portfolios primary interface for the Law Accountant function, the role will also be responsible for the delivery of robust high quality analysis reporting and provide expert advice and guidance to Police Scotland senior management and executive members.

Key responsibilities will include preparing accounts of expenses, reviewing accounts, drafting objections, engaging in negotiations with Third Party agents and preparing reports for the Force Executive.

  • Must have previous experience as a qualified Law Accountant
  • Experience in drafting accounts of expenses.
  • Experience in assessing / negotiating accounts of expenses.
  • Experience in preparing points of objection / responses.
  • Accurate numeracy skills and the ability to work with data.
  • Ability to use initiative and problem solve situations as they arise.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand and interpret terminology, maintain attention to detail.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrate the capability to effectively manage and complete tasks within established timeframes, ensuring timely delivery without compromising quality or attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and MS Teams).
  • Ability to work well as an individual and as part of a team.

The legal proceedings are varied in nature and subject and could be prolonged over a number of years.
Financial support for legal fees and legal expenses may also be paid to police staff and/ or police officers involved in such proceedings

Location:

  • Based in either Glasgow (Dalmarnock) or Perth with a hybrid working arrangement and option to work from home. 

This full time post is temporary for up to 18 months and will require Management Recruitment Vetting.  You will work 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00.
