Salary: Grade G, £51,282 to £56,184 per annum

Please note: The role holder will be required (with notice) to visit various locations within Hampshire & Isle of Wight to facilitate clinics and appointments, and therefore needs to have the ability to travel as necessary.

Occupational Health Specialists play a crucial role in providing clinical excellence and deliver a comprehensive Occupational Health, Wellbeing & Inclusion Service to the HIOWC. As a team of workplace health specialists who understand both the art and science of medicine and the unique challenges faced by those working, we focus on enabling officers/staff to remain at work/return to work, improving their fitness, health and resilience. We also enable them to deliver the Force’s priorities and better manage their health and demands of policing.
Our People Services department are seeking a Deputy Clinical Lead to join their busy and growing Occupational Health team.
In this role, you will provide objective occupational health advice to individuals and managers, in order to support Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary in effectively managing the health of its workforce. This will support the retention of skills and experience in the force, keeping people engaged at work and/or promote their return to work.
About the role
Your role and responsibilities on any day may include (but will not be limited to):
Operational and Clinical Management:
Overseeing the day-to-day operations and clinical management of the service, ensuring compliance with KPIs, legal and best practice requirements,
professional standards, quality, and customer service.
Leadership and Support:
Assisting the Clinical Lead in supporting the Specialist Occupational Health Advisers, the Mental Health Nurse, and Screening Technicians, aiding their professional development as required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and acting as a role model for best practices in Occupational Health.
Clinical Governance:
Supporting the Clinical Lead in ensuring excellent clinical governance for meeting internal and external legal requirements set by the relevant professional bodies, e.g. General Medical Council, Nursing and Midwifery Council etc., and supporting the early identification of risks and concerns that lead to individual, team and wider organisational learning.
Referral and Case Management:
Using your clinical judgment to prioritise and allocate referrals and cases, effectively managing workloads, resources, and the varied skills mix. Managing complex and high-risk cases, including those involving high risk/safety critical roles, in collaboration with HR and managers to reduce absence costs and protect against litigation, while regularly liaising with the HR case work team on case progression.
Occupational Health Specialist Expert Advice:
Acting as an expert Occupational Health Adviser, providing clinical support and expertise to the OH team, and leading on higher-risk, complex occupational health cases.
Medical Records Management & Confidentiality:
Ensuring occupational health records are completed and managed according to professional and departmental guidelines and policies, standards, and Data Protection requirements. Providing a confidential service that complies with medical confidentiality and professional practice codes.

About You
Do you have significant clinical, clinical governance and occupational health experience and have you previously managed clinical and/or occupational health teams?
To be successful in this role, you need to be able to lead with humility, be able to listen and understand key ideas, and be able to communicate and articulate your own ideas clearly and effectively.
With a growth and innovative mind-set, you will be able to easily adapt swiftly to new Clinical tools and technology (CORITY) and our own Departmental safety critical policies and procedures, which are aligned with the College of Policing standards and guidance.
Are you able to consistently achieve, and exceed, performance targets and standards?
Are you resilient, self-motivated and do you consistency strive for excellence?
Are you a registered general nurse and hold a current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council? Do you have Active Occupational Health Specialist Practitioner Part 3 Status and do you have an Occupational Health degree?
