Job Title: Information Assurance Supervisor

Salary: The starting salary is £53,459, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £50,531 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £55,103.  Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: The primary Met Location for this role is either Hendon, Sidcup or Southwark. Travel across the Met Estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected.

Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT)

The mission of Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) is to provide the Met with information (and specifically data), communications and technology to help frontline officers and Met staff do their jobs more efficiently, in order to deliver the New Met for London plan. In other words, DDaT is about “passionately delivering trusted technology for precise data driven policing”.

As well as keeping up to speed with developments in technology and making recommendations for new equipment and systems that will help modernise policing, DDaT also comprises the Data Office which:

  • Owns and drives the data compliance and analytics agenda.
  • Brings together the accountabilities that are currently dispersed across the Met business areas.
  • Consolidates and further develops existing Met data and insight services.
  • Enables data sharing and collaboration to serve the public and external partners.

Job Purpose

The Information Assurance Unit (IAU) is the focal point in the Met Police for Information Assurance, Security and Risk matters. The IAU provide expert advice and guidance across the whole organisation (and engage with key suppliers & external partners) to support both organisational and national policing security and risk management strategies, including:

The IAU’s core functions are to undertake project and procurement assurance activities; manage the MPS Security Incident Reporting scheme; undertake system/process audit projects; develop and implement information security policies and guidance; provide security advice to all levels of the organisation; and to promote cultural change of information security through engagement and awareness activities. All these areas also feed into providing support and guidance to the MPS Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO).

As a member of the team, you will be helping the organisation to maintain (and improve upon) Information Assurance maturity, to help protect and secure our information assets which support core policing activities and the public that we serve. 

Key Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will initially be assigned to one of the following areas:

  • Security Incident Management:

Logging, assessing and triaging security incidents; providing support and advice around risk; liaising with stakeholders and subject matter experts; maintaining oversight of incidents through to conclusion and then feeding into organisational learning activities.

  • Information Security Policy & Awareness:

Support the IAU policy lead with the creation and maintenance of MPS Information Security policies, standards and guidance. Assist with activities to drive improvement in information security culture across the MPS through the creation and presentation of awareness initiatives (both written and in person).

The successful candidate may move into (and, over time, will be expected to demonstrate aptitude in) all the other areas of Information Assurance, including:

  • Providing information security advice across the entire organisation.
  • Assurance of local information systems and projects.
  • Providing information assurance input on procurement activities and linked to supplier relationships.
  • Undertaking security and assurance inspections on suppliers/partner sites (which may involve travel across the UK).
  • Undertaking security audits (aligned to ISO27001) and other ad-hoc information security reviews of processes and procedures.

Vetting Clearance

For this role the Vetting Clearance is Force Clearance Level, Recruitment Vetting (RV), and National Security Vetting (NSV) Level, Counter Terrorism Check (CTC).
