About the role

Are you a self-driven, customer-focused individual with a passion for public service? The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Wiltshire and Swindon is looking for a Complaints Handler to join our dedicated Complaints Team, which works to enhance the service provided to the community.

In this role, you will be the first point of contact for individuals raising concerns. You’ll listen carefully to their issues, assess the situation, and work towards resolving complaints promptly and effectively. If you can’t resolve the issue, you’ll refer the matter to Wiltshire Police Professional Standards Department for further action. Additionally, you will contribute to identifying opportunities for improvement within the Force, helping to prevent future issues from arising.

About you and your experience 

It is essential for this role that you:

  • Have experience of working within a complaints environment
  • Have a criminal justice or policing background
  • Have experience of working within an environment that can can be confrontational

It is desirable for this role that you have:

  • An understanding of police systems and processes would be highly advantageous
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Empathy and the ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • A creative and decisive approach to problem-solving
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • A commitment to continuous improvement and delivering the right solution the first time

Additional Information

  • This position is politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
  • Due to the nature of the role, the postholder may need to attend meetings and events outside of regular working hours.
  • A valid driver's licence and access to a vehicle (or suitable alternative transportation) are essential to fulfill the responsibilities of the role
