Job Title: Civilian Driving Instructor
Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Accredited staff will also be eligible to a Market Related Allowance worth between £3,000 and £8,751 per annum.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Metropolitan Police Service Driving Academy and instruct Police Officers and Staff to the high standards required of a trained Police Driver. By imparting your police driving knowledge and skills, students can reach their potential, gain a new qualification within the professional world of police driving and help the organisation keep London safe for everyone.
This role is open for applications from candidates who are accredited Police Driving Instructors or Advanced Car Police Driver trained.
The Driving Academy predominantly works from Monday to Friday and from 0800hrs - 1600hrs. There is an exception to this when delivering 'driving in darkness' training. Flexible working applications will be considered.
This role is subject to a two-tier Market Related Allowance (MRA) in addition to the Band D pay scale as illustrated below.
Police staff driver trainers will receive £3,000 per annum if they are accredited and deliver Standard Response Driver Training (SRDT).
Police staff driver trainers will receive a further £5,751 per annum if they are accredited and also deliver Specialist Driver Training (SDT) in addition to SRDT.
SDT includes DVSA LGV/PCV training and examining, Initial phase pursuit, Advanced Car, TPAC and Police Motorcycle training. This is not an exhaustive list.
Application Process
You may then be invited to attend an Assessment Day. This will entail an informal interview, a written exam, and 2 assessed drives.
If successful in the assessment process, candidates (unless already qualified) will need to complete a 4 week College of Policing Training Essentials Programme (TEP) prior to a 12 week Police Driving Instructor’s Course to go on to deliver SRDT.
There will be a probationary period of 12 months from the start date, to successfully complete the above mandatory courses, in order to deliver police driver training. Once all relevant mandatory courses are complete, their role will be progressed from probationary period to successful confirmation in post. Should they not be successful at the above mandatory courses then their role will not be confirmed post 12 months.
