Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Vehicle Recovery Examination Services (VRES) is a key part of the MPS drive to tackle vehicle crime on the streets of London working in partnership with a number of external agencies and MPS contractors to remove, recover, restore and dispose of vehicles that are involved in collisions, those involved in serious and organised crime that require forensic examinations or those that are seized under Police powers for no insurance or unlicensed. We support Frontline policing and operate 24/7/365, we have our own unique in-house policing team and a command-and-control team.
We operate out of two forensic compounds, Perivale and Charlton. Processing over 40,000 vehicles, we deal with everything, from two-wheel bikes all the way up to and including HGV’s. Our work has a direct impact upon the service the MPS delivers Londoners, and it is vital we are able to continue to deliver this service to meet current and future demands.
We are looking for a great person to join our team as a Business Support Manager. You will be responsible for controlling the disposal and end of life processes of vehicular assets on behalf of the MPS, maintaining accurate records of the volumes and types of vehicles for resale and the value of all resold assets. You will also develop, establish, own and manage all stakeholder and supplier relationships ensuring performance is benchmarked against industry standards optimising the return and resale for the MPS.
The role will be based within either the Perivale or Charlton Pound as well as working from home arrangements, as established with the SDM. Flexibility will be required as at times, it may be necessary for you to go to all VRES, other MPS and supplier sites in the event of a requirement by the operational team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver a Disposal Strategy that optimises the end-of-life process and resale values for MPS vehicular assets
- Arrangement of those vehicles to be resold through a variety of 3rd party disposal contractors
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders and 3rd party disposal contractors to gain the best resale value on vehicles that are seized or removed from MPS service
- Oversee the end-to-end performance of VRES disposal contractors to ensure appropriate market rate prices for the sale of vehicle assets, complete physical audit checks and test purchases to monitor and drive performance
- Allocate vehicle stock for sale using a network of logistics, inspection, and remarketing providers (both physical and e-remarketing) maintaining full control of inventory from file receipt through to sale proceed reconciliation
- Act in a consultative manner for VRES and Fleet Services SLTs around the resale market and end of life processes, supporting the delivery of both organisations’ vision and acting to reconcile requirements where necessary
- Regular contact with MPS Fleet team regarding disposal of MPS owned vehicles, processing of vehicle disposal notifications, auditing vehicles for compliance all the way from hand off to VRES right through the de-commissioning cycle.
- Ensure strict management and auditing of assets from supplier choice through to correct invoicing and conduct occasional mystery shopper visits of suppliers’ premises and test purchases
- Manage the administration of all statutory and mandatory vehicle documentation for disposals of assets and seized vehicles, alongside DVLA notification
- Manage all suppliers and movers to ensure that all H&S, COSHH, Risk Assessment activities and monitor compliance with current legislative requirements
- Ensure delivery of the annual vehicle disposal budget, conduct monthly forecasting and complete analysis of data trends against both budget lines and historical figures. The non-delivery would cause financial pressure on the organisation at a time when overall financial delivery and management is critical
- Continuous improvement of the end-to-end disposal process, driving innovation and change wherever possible
- Able to make decisions without referencing upwards on auction/disposal sales
- Extracting, preparing and analysing data to provide insights on trends, forecasts and opportunities for improvement in the provision of the service
- Work in conjunction with function managers and other teams on continuous improvement initiatives, providing data and insight where appropriate
- Assist in the creation and delivery of BJPs, OBCs, FBCs etc. in support of future change and transformation for VRES
- Champion change and improvement within the team, identifying areas of waste, rework, duplication or frustration
- Assisting any other VRES function with administrative duties when necessary
- Understand the team’s key performance indicators and your role in achieving them
- Adhere to any performance target that is set based on demand and expected performance
- Keep up to date with changes to policy and working practices
- Work with other disposal teams within the wider MPS to establish best practice
