South Wales Police is the largest police force in Wales, serving a population of approximately 1.3 million people across an area of 2,117 square miles. As an ICT Device and Systems Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of our ICT infrastructure and providing technical assistance to our staff. We have recently invested heavily in our ICT department with exciting new projects and opportunities funded by significant investment. Formed in 2003, Tarian is part funded by the Home Office, Welsh Government and the three Southern Wales Police Forces: South Wales, Gwent and Dyfed-Powys. The ROCU is a multi-disciplinary team made up of police officers and staff seconded from the three forces. The lead force for the region is South Wales Police.

Where we operate:

Tarian operates across Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Newport, Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taff, the Vale of Glamorgan, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Powys.

With over 20 specialist units and capabilities, the teams within Tarian are dedicated to disrupting and dismantling Serious Organised Crime groups across the region.

The role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated ICT Device and Systems Specialist to join our dynamic IT team. 

To provide ICT 3rd line technical guidance and specialist advice for designated technical functions across a diverse range of technologies that underpin mission critical and operationally sensitive 24/7 emergency services and systems. 

Purpose:

Development, implementation and support of device and systems infrastructure ensuring compliance to set standards whilst maintaining performance and availability together with providing specialist advice for a diverse range of technologies across enterprise scale technical architecture.

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, install and maintain various aspects of enterprise scale infrastructure, paying particular attention to wider business impact when planning maintenance and development activities.
  • Provide technical guidance to a diverse range of infrastructure technology specialists, consisting of Network, Perimeter, Storage, Servers & Devices, and various devolved units with distinct IT provisions.
  • Identify, propose, and implement opportunities for the continuous improvement of technology including continuity and recovery bringing mutual benefit to the force and its partners.
  • Provide senior management specialist advice and guidance on a range of complex and/or escalated technical problems.

Requirements:

Essential Qualifications

  • Information Technology related Degree or proven experience in relevant areas of Information Technology 

Essential Skills

  • Experience in: 
  • Support, installation and configuration of Server or Client Devices 
  • Server or Client Operating Systems, especially Microsoft Windows 
  • Design and installation within an IT Enterprise Systems Infrastructure 
  • Administration and troubleshooting within an IT Enterprise Systems Infrastructure 
  • Active Directory Services, such as Group Policy, DNS, DFS 
  • Server or Device Security Administration 
  • Staff Management Experience

Essential Knowledge

  • Experience of configuring System or Device management and monitoring tools. E.G. Microsoft Intune, Microsoft SCCM, Azure Monitor, Microsoft SCOM 
  • Awareness of the operational necessity that IT Enterprise Infrastructure has upon the organization. 
  • Establishing IT processes and procedures 
  • Incident, Problem and Change management experience. 
  • Experience of working on Projects

Where you’ll fit in:

The ICT Device and Systems Specialist will report to the ICT Operations Manager – TARIAN and work alongside staff for technical delivery in accordance with corporate SWP ICT standards and bespoke covert security requirements. 

You’ll be part of a small team who work a mixed environment of on-premises and working from home.  Your role will predominantly be 9-5 Monday – Friday with occasional weekend events or where required participate in out-of-hours on-call.
