Job Title: National Police Chiefs' Council - Assistant Accountant

Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: Remote working nationally within UK. NPCC is currently based in close proximity to St James’ Park Underground Station, London and therefore occasional travel will be required to this premise and other Police locations across the UK. Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2026 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance). 

 

THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS’ COUNCIL (NPCC)

NPCC BUSINESS SUPPPORT TEAM 
Business Support maintains the logistics for the delivery of strategic meetings including Chief Constables Council, Regional Chiefs and the newly formed Strategic Planning and Coordination Board. Other responsibilities include supporting the remote workforce for all IT and equipment, HR support, finance, governance assurance, information management and data protection protocols, and host force management duties. The team also work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the NPCC is able to support Chief Officers in the constantly evolving areas of national policing.    

THE ROLE 

This role would be suited to someone with a working experience in finance and purchase to pay functions and would provide them with exposure to managing a whole organisations’ finances from beginning to end. 

Key stakeholders the post holder will interact with on a regular basis includes (but not limited to): NPCC & NPoCC SLT incl. the Finance Analyst, SSCL, MPS HR and Commercial and other support business areas in the MPS, other UK Police Services Finance functions, other Government bodies incl. the Home Office, and key suppliers and customers.  

Specific responsibilities of this role are: 

  • Assisting in budget setting, budget monitoring and forecasting incl. costings to assist in calculations 
  • Knowledge of Financial Management and Commercial procurement rules ensuring Value for Money and contract compliance 
  • Supporting internal and external users through the Purchase-2-Pay process  
  • Providing financial analysis and modelling options as required in support of the Finance Analyst.  
  • Maintain master systems data such as financial approval hierarchies, new suppliers, cost centre codes, purchase order management incl.  Goods Receipt vs Invoice Receipt differences clearing

VETTING  

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required. 

The Metropolitan Police manage HR for NPCC recruitment.
