Statement of expectation for the role:
In this role, you’ll be delivering an efficient, accurate and effective technical fingerprint examination service to the City of London Police. Working as part of a team, you’ll conduct analysis, comparison, evaluation and verification of finger, palm and plantar prints in connection with all levels of crime from burglaries to homicide. Your insight will bring offenders to justice and support the wider judicial system.
Job Description
To provide professional, efficient and effective fingerprint examination provision to the City of London Police and external agencies.
To apply your knowledge and skills in the analysis, comparison, evaluation and verification of finger, palm & plantar marks and prints.
Key Responsibilities
- The FPE will assist in the delivery of the fingerprint service to the investigation team. They will deliver the agreed fingerprint strategies as appropriate and follow service level agreements and relevant procedures.
- Perform the analysis, comparison, evaluation and verification of fingermark, palm and plantar impressions.
- Use training and experience to analyse, compare, evaluate and verify crime scene marks. Use professional judgment to determine the quality of marks and the most effective method of processing case material to support an investigation. The FPE will be required to justify their findings either orally or in writing and they will be held accountable for their technical decisions.
- Provide accurate and detailed notes describing observations and interpretations of finger mark analysis. Provide a rationale for personal opinions.
- Use acquired fingerprint knowledge to interrogate the IDENT 1 AFIS system effectively. Learn to operate and interrogate all computerised systems required for efficient service delivery.
- Undergo assessment for competence within the framework laid down by the Forensic Science Regulator, including demonstrating professionalism and a fundamental understanding of the fingerprint discipline. Keep up to date with fingerprint knowledge and continuing research and development in the field.
- Work under the structure of the Forensic Services Quality Management System and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the system by participating in quality assurance activities, engaging in internal audits, competence and proficiency tests, reporting non-conformances and proposing changes to improve the system.
