Cyber Protect Officer - Cyber Crime Unit (SEROCU)
Are you passionate about technology and helping people? Do you enjoy public speaking and want to make a real difference in your community?
We are searching for a Cyber Protect Officer to join our dynamic team in helping to protect individuals and organisations from cybercrime.
About the Role
As a Cyber Protect Officer, you’ll be at the forefront of our mission to prevent cybercrime before it happens. You will deliver engaging presentations, run awareness campaigns, and support victims of cybercrime – helping them stay safe online.
This role is open to candidates from a wide and diverse range of backgrounds.
You do not need deep technical knowledge or previous experience in cybercrime to apply – full training will be provided where needed. If you're enthusiastic about cybersecurity and enjoy educating people, we want to hear from you.
However, if you already have a foundation in technology or cybersecurity – whether through study, work, or personal interest – this role offers a unique opportunity to apply and grow your skills in a real-world, operational environment. You’ll gain exposure to live cybercrime threats, work alongside law enforcement investigators, and develop expertise in a side of cybersecurity that few roles can offer: proactive prevention and victim support within a policing context.
The core skills required for this role are around public contact, educational outreach, and the ability to deliver engaging presentations. These may be met by candidates from a variety of professional or academic backgrounds.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver presentations, cyber exercising and workshops to schools, businesses, and community groups
- Promote key cybersecurity practices like strong passwords and two-factor authentication
- Support victims of cybercrime with practical advice and guidance
- Collaborate with regional teams and national partners to share best practices.
- Create innovative campaigns and projects to raise awareness of cyber threats.
Who You Are
- A confident communicator who enjoys public speaking
- Comfortable working independently and managing your own schedule
- Able to build rapport with a wide range of people – from students to senior executives
- Willing to travel across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight (and occasionally the wider South East)
- Curious about technology and eager to learn more about cybersecurity
Bonus if you have:
- Experience in education, outreach, tech support, or crime prevention
- A background in cybersecurity, IT, or digital/online safety
What We Offer
- Full training, including nationally recognised cybersecurity qualifications (CISMP, Security+)
- Exposure to a unique cyber-policing environment and the opportunity to develop your career in cybersecurity with a grounding like no other in the real-world threats
- A supportive and collaborative team environment
- Opportunities to work on innovative projects and campaigns
- A chance to make a real impact in your community
- A varied work day, including outreach engagements around the force area, working from your Police base-station and some home working or hot-desking
Ready to make a difference?
Apply now and help us make the South East one of the safest places to live and work online. Candidates invited to interview will be asked to deliver a 10 minute educational presentation to the panel on a topic of their choice. The presentation must have a clear teaching point. Further details will be provided to candidates who reach that stage.
You will be asked to demonstrate flexibility regarding working hours in line with operational demand and occasionally this may require working away from home. For this reason a full UK Driving Licence is essential to the role.
Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC together with a number of enhanced security checks. In order to achieve this, you must have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.
You can find more information about security vetting here.
