The Role & Key ResponsibilitiesFrom your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
This new role will be central to the efficient working of the Data Quality Unit in Surrey Police and we are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic candidate to grab this opportunity to assist the Supervisor to build a team dedicated to ensuring the critical information we circulate is accurate and timely. This could be a vulnerable missing person or a dangerous criminal; a vehicle being driven by a people trafficker or a stolen firearm.
You will have a strong eye for detail, be a lateral thinker who loves data and fixing problems. You will also have some experience in mentoring people and have a strong sense of social responsibility and commitment to safeguarding the public.
You will be based at Surrey Police Headquarters in Mount Browne but have the opportunity to work agilely, including from home - subject to operational need.
Skills & ExperienceIt is essential for this role that you have achieved GCSE (or equivalent) Grades A*-C (or 9-4) in Maths and English.
You should also:
- Have experience with the Police National Computer (PNC) and NICHE or be willing to undertake training and become proficient within the probation period.
- Be able to demonstrate an ability to mentor Operators, giving assistance and advice whilst ensuring that all protocol and procedures are followed and best performance maintained.
- Have sound computer-based skills and experience in interrogating systems.
- Acquire and maintain, with training, a good understanding of organisational goals and strategic aims in the following areas: Data Bureau working practices and procedures, PNC and NICHE.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills including report writing, and well-developed interpersonal skills, even when working in demanding situations.
- Work accurately with a high attention to detail.
- Be able to work unsupervised and use own initiative to solve problems, taking reasoned and responsible decisions that consider all the relevant factors and information.
- Be able to prioritise issues, take control and respond promptly to changing situations.
- Be able to communicate with a wide range of people, demonstrating the appropriate sensitivity, whilst maintaining professional integrity and communicating the policies of the organisation.
- Have knowledge of criminal case law to deal with charges and disposals within court resulting, including the flagging of errors and operator queries.
- Be willing to work shifts for which an allowance will be paid - currently on a 3 rota basis covering 0700-1500/0800-1600/1200-2000 hrs Mon-Fri and one weekend in three (core hours). This may be reviewed in the future to remove the requirement for shift working.
