There will be two vacancies available:

  • One is a permanent placement. Full Time posting
  • The second is a temporary secondment lasting between 6-12 months. Full time posting

 

Are you an experienced and confident communicator with a background in emergency call handling, dispatch, or contact management operations? Do you have a passion for developing others and improving performance in high-pressure environments? If so, we want to hear from you. Contact Management is the unseen frontline. Every contact could be a crisis – every decision, critical. And behind every skilled operator is someone that guided them through the chaos. That someone could be you !

We are seeking a Contact Management Mentor to play a vital role in supporting and guiding new and existing staff in one of the most critical areas of policing — Contact Management. As a mentor, you will be instrumental in helping our teams deliver an exceptional service to the public, ensuring every call is handled with professionalism, urgency, and care – not just today, but for years to come.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and group mentoring to new starters and developing staff within the control room.
  • Offer ongoing feedback, coaching, and support to help staff achieve competence and confidence in their roles.
  • Identify development needs and work closely with trainers, supervisors, and operational leads to tailor support.
  • Promote best practices in first contact, incident grading, dispatch, and resource management.
  • Support quality assurance by reviewing calls and providing constructive feedback.
  • Lead by example in maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, and decision-making under pressure.

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience working in a police control room or similar emergency service environment.
  • Strong knowledge of incident management systems, call grading protocols, and national standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and guide others effectively in high-stakes situations.
  • A patient, approachable, and supportive attitude toward learning and development.
  • Commitment to upholding the values of policing and public service.

The advert will close on Sunday 13th July 2025 with shortlisting taking place week commencing 14th July 2025. Interviews are currently scheduled for week commencing 21st July 2025.

  • Must have proven working knowledge or experience of organisational communication and information systems within a large communications room
  • Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to Continuous Professional Development

  • Must be able to work using own initiative, and without constant supervision, addressing issues and finding appropriate solutions
