Police Dog Instructor

The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating the training, licencing and on going development of our General Purpose (GP) dog handling teams. Requiring previous experience as an operational dog handler bringing a wealth of skill and knowledge, the successful candidate will be based at the Lincolnshire Police Dog Training Establishment. They will be expected to develop and maintain training programmes and ensure training and licencing records are recorded and stored in an accurate and timely manner. The successful candidate will proactively manage the performance, attendance and welfare of students and dogs against the required national standards, policies and procedures. 

They will demonstrate the Force values and behaviours. All staff involved in carrying out functions in this role will do so in accordance with the principles of the Code of Ethics. The aim of the Code of Ethics is to support each member of the policing profession to deliver the highest professional standards in their service to the public. 

The successful candidate must:

•    Have completed the NPCC General Purpose Police Dog Instructors Course
•    Have relevant experience in the training of working dogs in scent, and use of force related roles among other areas (such evidence must be from within the last 3 years) 
•    Good verbal and written communication skills
•    Have completed the Training Essentials programme course (or willing to complete)
•    Have completed a recognised Risk Assessor course (or willing to complete a course)
•    Have a sound up to date knowledge of the Police Dog Authorised Professional Practice 2024 and the Animal Welfare Act 2006
•    Full Driving Licence
•    Demonstrate an understanding of the expected values and behaviours set out in the Police Code of Ethics

The hours of work will be agreed with the successful candidate, covering 37 hours per week.
