With its vast rural geography, pockets of “city-type” demand and significant cross-border activity, North Yorkshire presents a complex and rewarding Leadership challenge. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a policing family which values its people and is committed to improving the service it provides to the communities across our beautiful county.
As a Chief Inspector, you will be able to demonstrate a breadth of experience and performance as either an Inspector or Chief Inspector across multiple different roles. We are looking for innovative, operationally credible, and values-led leaders who have a proven track record of improving organisational performance to help us deliver outstanding policing and remain one of the safest places in the country.
If you’re the person we’re looking for, you will have:
- An inspiring yet adaptive leadership style, demonstrating clarity of values and behaviour that supports the wellbeing of your team to create the right environment for your teams to thrive.
- Confidence in command with the ability to plan, manage and monitor the response to complex policing incidents whilst managing competing demands and priorities.
- Outstanding in your communication skills to enable you to translate our strategic priorities into tactical and operational delivery for your team with clarity, meaning and ease.
- Ability to engage and empower your team along with wider colleagues/stakeholders, valuing and embracing difference.
- Experience in how you set, monitor and assess the performance of your department, teams and individuals to drive forward our Force priorities and deliver against our Plan on a Page.
- Understanding of the needs of our communities with the expertise to proactively engage broadly, maintain relationships with communities and partners across our Force area, championing our “one team approach”
- Ability to lead and support transformational change, being in tune with our strategic and financial landscape.
Please note that it is an expectation of the rank that you are applying for that, in addition to your role, you undertake an operational command responsibility in line with our organisational requirements. Such command roles may include, but are not limited to, Tactical Firearms Command or Senior Investigating Officer functions, which include 24/7 on-call duties and ongoing professional accreditation requirements which may be tracked in your PDR. In order to undertake your command duties, it may be necessary for you to complete an external residential course, which will be discussed with you and arranged following your appointment. Reasonable adjustments and individual personal needs will be considered alongside these requirements.
We view diversity as fundamental to our success. To tackle today’s complex policing challenges; we need a workforce made up from all of North Yorkshire’s communities. Applications from across all diverse groups are encouraged and essential to our ambition to be an inclusive and representative organisation.
