ARV Inspector
Prospective officers and staff must be held to a higher standard of behaviour and accountability than members of the public, and that therefore their right to privacy can be fettered in certain circumstances. This is to ensure that members of the police are fully aware and accountable for the unique powers entrusted to them and the standards of professional behaviour they swear to uphold.
Specific Role Purpose
The ARV Inspector role is critical in ensuring that officers are trained and available to deploy on a 24/7 basis, in line with national service level agreements (SLA), to protect our communities from the greatest threat, risk and harm and ensure that there is a flexible and dynamic approach in supporting local policing by identifying and responding to incidents of crime or intelligence.
Specific Role Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate and engage your team, ensuring that the highest standards of professionalism, training, development and performance are maintained at all times.
- Protect and promote workforce wellbeing to uphold professional standards and enable a high performing team.
- Manage team/individual performance, taking corrective action as necessary to ensure that the team effectively contribute towards the wider force priorities.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with local, regional and national stakeholders and be involved in the planning and preparation for training and exercise.
- Managing, developing and maintaining close working relationships with a number of key partners and stakeholders.
- Develop inclusive teams working with local and national stakeholders to recruit and retain armed officers.
- Delivering presentations and acting as a point of contact on matters relating to the ARVS teams and associated key responsibilities.
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of Police Regulations and College of Policing Guidance, best practice, local and national policy applicable to the area of responsibility.
- Develop and oversee policy with regards to ARV responsibility, capability and capacity.
- Manage financial budgets from national and local funding streams. Review and report on team expenditure to ensure the efficient use of available budgets and maximise value for money.
- Cover periods of on call duties - Tactical Firearms Commander (once qualified).
Essential Skills
- Substantive Inspector with experience of leading teams promoting a culture that values diversity and inclusion.
- Operationally experienced with an ability and willingness to make difficult and/or time critical decisions.
- Experience of planning and managing operations
- Experience of working collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure best outcome for our communities
- Good presentation and report writing skills that will be in support of regional and national governance
- Will be required to pass tactical firearms commander course
Desirable Skills
- Previous firearms experience as a firearms officer or commander
Future development training: Dependent on eDR and aspirations for future role
- Required to pass initial and cadre Tactical Firearms Commander courses
- Development towards specialist firearms commander programme
- Post Incident Management
- Maintain annual accreditation and continuous professional development.
Hours of Work and Flexibility
Core Hours Mon – Friday
There will be a requirement to undertake on call duties and provision of weekend cover on a rotational basis.

Vetting
Successful applicants will be required to pass Management Vetting and Security Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
Interviews
3rd and 4th of July with 7/8th as a reserve.
