The Role & Key ResponsibilitiesFrom your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.
It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.
In this role you will be:
- Working as part of a team of technicians, provide an effective service in the enforcement of camera detected offences by generating, producing, viewing and verifying the photographic or video evidence to support alleged offences.
- Retrieve, load, operate and monitor digital traffic enforcement equipment for the gathering of evidence in relation to speed, red x and red traffic light offences detected.
- Log and process the recording materials used in the enforcement equipment to obtain and preserve the continuity of all recorded evidence.
- As part of the viewing process undertake secondary checks on the activation data retrieved from enforcement equipment to provide photographic or video evidence in support of alleged speed, red x and red traffic light offences.
- Analyse evidence and information obtained from traffic enforcement equipment and decide on the appropriate course of action. Issue a warning, prosecute or cancel within strict procedural guidelines and procedures. Consider if the evidence to support a successful prosecution is complete.
- Work to the timescales laid down in legislation for the generation of Notices of Intended Prosecutions.
- Attend court to give specialist evidence when required and produce exhibits to assist in the prosecution of alleged offenders.
- Prepare evidential statements for court to support the continuity of evidence.
- Carry out other administrative functions as required.
- Identify offences where a safety awareness course may be appropriate and instigate the process.
- When required, respond to queries from members of the public regarding the technical aspects of camera enforcement and the selection of casualty reduction sites. Provide photographic evidence where appropriate to assist with driver identification.
- Maintain any official motor vehicle supplied in connection with this job in a clean and serviceable condition, carrying out regular checks in accordance with local procedures.
- Maintain an accurate log of film and video evidence, carry out archiving in accordance with specified timescales to ensure Data Protection Act compliance.
- Provide information to the Technicians Team Leader regarding any changes to the status of enforcement sites; reporting faults and any factors affecting their risk assessment.
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post.
It is essential that the post holder has previous experience of using databases for administrative purposes (preferably, at least two years) together with the willingness and capability to undertake suitable training to become proficient in the use of police and departmental web based applications, software, printing and mailing technology.
It is essential for the post holder to have a methodical mind and the ability to accurately analyse large quantities of data.
It is essential to have good interpersonal and communication skills to be able to deal courteously with enquiries from members of the public and to produce clear, legible and accurate records and letters.
It is essential to be the holder of a full valid driving licence (preferably endorsement free) with the ability to pass the Force’s Basic Driving Assessment which will enable you to drive a car on police business.
It is essential to have the ability to assimilate a thorough working knowledge of all current legislation relative to the enforcement of camera detected offences, including Home Office circulars, recommendations of The National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) and Surrey Police policy.
It is essential that the post holder is well motivated with the ability to work to strict timescales in a calm and flexible manner.
An aptitude for operating technology is essential together with demonstrable problem-solving skills.
