PC - Dog Instructor

Applications are invited from constables interested in becoming a Dog Training Instructor with Cheshire Dog Section.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of the Cheshire Dog Unit, based at Winsford, where you will prepare and run training courses for new and existing dog handlers, providing feedback and assessment.

To be considered for this unique role, you must have previous experience of working a General-Purpose Police Dog.  You must be prepared to attend an NPCC General Purpose Instructor Course within 12 months of taking up post if you don’t already hold a certificate.  You will also possess or be capable of achieving the Training Essentials Programme.  At the time of application, you must have in date officer safety and first aid training.

Candidates will need to hold a full current UK/European Driving Licence and be a Police Standard driver.  The ability to develop new trainee police dog pups is desirable.

In addition to attending the NPCC Instructor Course, you will undertake a Dog Serial Commanders course and must be willing to attend a specialist search dog course in the future, at the direction/discretion of the Dog Section Management.

You must have current housing that will provide safe and suitable accommodation to house a kennel set up and will take responsibility for the exercise, care and welfare of allocated police dogs both on and off duty.

Further information on the role can be obtained from Sergeant Gary McCoy or Inspector Sam Lovatt
