Post Title: Front Line Systems Administrator for the Police National Computer (PNC) soon to be replaced by NLEDS the National Law Enforcement Data Programme; and (PND) The Police National Database.

This role is open to all Police Staff / external candidates who meet the essential criteria of the person spec, regardless of current grade.

About the team

The Frontline Systems Support and Development (FSSD) - Systems Administrator role for the City of London Police sits within the Information Management Security service area in the Corporate Services Directorate.

The Systems Administrator maintains business critical operational systems. This will include responsibility for one or more systems and notably PNC/NLEDS and PND.

About the role

An exciting opportunity to provide the City of London Police with effective Police National Computer (PNC/NLEDS) and Police National Database (PND) expertise by maintaining the integrity and timeliness of information and intelligence updates on PNC and managing PND administration in compliance with national guidelines, HMIC recommendations and statute.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be:

  • Working with both police officers and police staff in a multi front line system management environment.
  • Supporting and taking responsibility for the administration of the PND working with internal and external stakeholders as governed by compliance.
  • Maintaining and keeping accurate records in relation to PND users within the system administration as governed by compliance.
  • Supporting and taking responsibility for the administration of the PNC/NLEDS working with internal and external stakeholders as governed by compliance.
  • Maintaining and keeping accurate records in relation to PNC/NLEDS users within the system administration as governed by compliance.
  • To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be requested appropriate to the grade such as providing resilience across other systems managed by the FSSD during peak demand or to cover short term absence.

Requirements

For this role, we need you to have experience of:

  • Experience in managing business systems administration including user management, system monitoring, and security management.
  • A proven track record of working within business-critical operational systems.
  • Undertaking system administration duties in a law enforcement/policing environment (Desirable but not essential).
  • Experience of full system administration, preferably with prior experience in updating and administrating the PNC and PND.
  • Recent demonstrable practical experience of using PNC/NLEDS (update and enquiry) and PND administration with training courses evidenced.
  • Can demonstrate your knowledge of the legislation restricting access to interrogate and update the PNC, PND contrary to the DPA (Data Protection Act) and MOPI (Management of Police Information).

Selection Process

As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills, and knowledge demonstrate your ability to meet the person specification of the role.

The application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.

Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered.
