Today terrorism is a constant threat within the United Kingdom. By joining Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) West Midlands, you can directly contribute to keeping the UK safe and help us tackle the threat.
The West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU) forms part of a national network of specialist services and UK police forces, helping protect the public against terrorist activity. We’re looking for an enthusiastic and experienced team leader to join the Security team as the National Security Vetting Supervisor at WMCTU.
This role is based in our modern offices near to the Birmingham International Airport. You’ll work Monday to Friday, between the core hours of 0700 – 1830.
The role
National security vetting is an integral part of a police service framework of ethics and professional standards. It assists with identifying individuals who are unsuitable to work within the police service, or to have access to police assets, through vetting research utilising a variety of intelligence and information systems.
As the National Security Vetting Supervisor within WMCTU, you’ll play a key part in leading a small team of Vetting Officers ensuring all applicants (officers, staff, partners, and contractors) are all appropriately vetted, preventing individuals who carry threat and risk from joining the West Midlands Police.
You will be responsible for driving the day-to-day delivery and performance of the Vetting team ensuring service delivery targets, as well as the strategic priorities of WMCTU are met.
The role will support the Vetting Manager with all national security vetting decisions, approving or withdrawing applications, as well as leading on potential vetting appeals.
Working together within a dedicated team of vetting experts, you’ll also provide advice and support as a subject matter expert regarding vetting requirements with regard to Counter Terrorism Checks (CTC), Security Checks (SC) and Developed Vetting (DV) clearances.
Having the scope to work on your own initiative you’ll be part of a flexible and friendly team. This is a unique, varied, and rewarding challenge within a busy and dynamic environment.

As part of our commitment we operate a Disability Confident Interview Scheme - all candidates who declare a disability and meet the essential criteria for the role will be offered an interview.
It is important to note that there may be occasions where it is not practicable or appropriate to interview all disabled people who meet the essential criteria for the job. For example, in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people. In these circumstances, the employer could select the candidates who best meet the essential criteria for the job, as they would do for non-disabled applicants.
