A vacancy has become available for a Superintendent role to be the Head of Human Intelligence . This role is responsible for performing the function of Authorising Officer for a range of specialist capabilities.

The post is open to substantive Superintendents and Chief Inspectors who have been successful in a Superintendent process but await posting, within the region from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, and Suffolk, Essex and Kent.

This post is open to those who currently are qualified Authorising Officers.

The Eastern Region Special Operations Unit (ERSOU) is the unit tasked with tackling the threat of organised crime, terrorism across the forces in the Eastern Region and to provide specialist covert policing capability to law enforcement.

ERSOU consists of the Regional Organised Crime Unit (ROCU) and the Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) Command and is made up of resources from across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent (ROCU only), Norfolk and Suffolk.

The ROCU identifies, disrupts, and dismantles organised crime groups impacting on the Eastern Region and tackles Organised Crime Groups causing the greatest levels of harm to communities of the East. The CTP Command unit exists primarily to gather and develop intelligence to help protect the public from national security threats, especially terrorism and other extremist activity. Through this they play a valuable role in promoting community safety and cohesion. The single regional CTP capability provides the critical link between local policing and the wider CT network – an essential component in delivering almost all aspects of the Governments counter–terrorism strategy - CONTEST.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with experience and knowledge of RIPA 2000, Police Act 1997, CPIA 1996, HRA 1998, DPA & MOPI & COPO and experience of managing high consequence and complex issues through dynamic and robust risk management ownership. Ideally the successful candidate will have experience of managing CHIS, Surveillance or Undercover Operations, experience of managing covertly obtained intelligence products and experience of partnership working within the CT Policing or SOC network.
