Learning and Development Department are offering the opportunity to join the Training team at Heddlu Gwent Police as a Crime Assessor.

In this role, your main responsibilities will be:

To assess Police Officers and Police Staff Investigators at the recognised stages of their professional qualification e.g. Trainee Investigator Programme, SSAIDP, SCAIDP, Level 5 Investigator Programme, etc., updating electronic portfolios and endorsing criteria completion for the Awarding Body.

  • To undertake observed professional practice and provide feedback on skills observed, identifying areas that require improvement or approving criteria met.
  • To support the Force Quality Assurance Officer with ongoing assessment and reviews ensuring appropriate standards are met for the Awarding Body.
  • Must be confident in delivering inductions, challenging performance and providing support to candidates and supervisors through verbal and written feedback
  • To provide training resilience to the Crime Training Team.
  • To plan work to include inductions, schedules of assessment, feedback and compliance.
  • To monitor, assess and review candidates and, when necessary, provide written reports to address compliance.
  • To facilitate individual’s ownership of learning and continuous self development, identifying immediate and future needs, when required.  

 Skills, experience, and qualifications required:

  • Must have previously been PIP 2 Accredited and can provide evidence of occupational competence.
  • Must have experience of professional development of investigators.

(I.e. PIP 2 Tutor, Supervisor or experience of crime training delivery).

  • Must have either formal qualification in assessment or be willing to undertake relevant training (Level 3 Assessor Qualification).
  • Must have experience of serious and complex investigations.
  • Must have experience of Investigative Interviewing.

Must have knowledge and experience of;

  • Must be able to evidence sound knowledge of working with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Must have knowledge of PIP 2 Personal Development Portfolio’s.
  • Must have knowledge of evaluation methodology.
  • Level W Welsh essential (training will be given). Welsh language skills Level 3 and above are desirable.
