There is no greater mission than keeping the public safe – our people are the way we achieve this. This communications role is integral to the success of the Metropolitan Police Service.

This is no ordinary internal communications role, and as such experience in internal communications is not a pre-requisite for this position!

We are made up of nearly 40,000 dedicated people, both police officers and police staff. We police the whole of London, and we do it with frontline officers in the heart of communities, with blue lights and sirens, with boats and helicopters, with dogs and horses, with firearms commands, forensics teams, hundreds of dedicated 999 call handlers and so much more.

The jobs our people do are as varied as the communities we protect. You will be working at the very heart of this and will bring passion, curiosity and creativity to how we build morale, change behaviours and cultures, and deliver better policing across the Met.

This role needs someone who can understand a complex set of audiences and can advocate for them at the highest levels. You will be comfortable advising on high profile and crisis issues and will be able to understand how these issues impact different parts of our organisation. You will keep up with the news agenda, and will give strategic advice to our media and digital teams to ensure the concerns and voices of our people are reflected externally.

We are looking for someone who can hunt down a good story and produce fast paced content across a number of channels, while inspiring your team to do the same. As such you will have excellent written communication skills, will be used to working at pace, and will be comfortable providing professional challenge.

This role sits in a newly created unit which merges external campaigning with internal engagement. You will lead our internal activity, and will directly manage a small team who support your work as well as building a network of embedded communications staff and officers across the organisation to help you mobilise and deliver your plans. You will be able to demonstrate the gravitas and leadership skills to bring large numbers of people together under a common goal.

Additional Information

You will be based in New Scotland Yard but may be required to work at other Met buildings across London where the need arises.

You may very occasionally be required to work out of hours in the event of a major crisis, for which overtime will be paid.
