Job Title: Communications Manager – Media and Digital
Salary: Band C £44,132 - £52,652. You will receive £44,132, the band minimum. Progress to the band maximum of £52,652 will be via incremental progression
Location: 50 Broadway, London, with flexibility to work remotely. NPCC encourages applications from candidates living across the UK.
Contract: Fixed Term until 31/03/2026 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance).

NPCC COMMUNICATIONS TEAM
The NPCC Communications Team plays a crucial role in communicating the collective views and action of UK police chiefs to the public, government, and stakeholders, building and maintaining confidence in policing at the national level and supporting effective engagement with stakeholders.
THE ROLE
To provide high quality media and digital engagement to deliver on the NPCC communication strategy, manage complex, sensitive issues and media stories in a way that builds and maintains reputation and provide professional advice and support to the Chair and Chief Officers.
You’ll be responsible for a portfolio of high-profile campaigns and issues that matter to the public. You’ll work directly with police chiefs, government and media with significant scope of impact.
The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills:
- Excellent news and political sense and understanding of the range of media – owned and non-owned. Good understanding of how journalists work and how to build good working relationships.
- Ability to evaluate, analyse and swiftly summarise information gathered from a range of sources to identify important issues, be able to make unbiased and accurate decisions on complex issues and communicate complex or contentious issues clearly and sensitively.
- Experience of developing and delivering high quality communication strategies and handling plans aligned to corporate objectives built on insight, employing creative content and evaluated for continuous improvement.
- Substantial experience of proactive and reactive media handling dealing with national media.

VETTING
Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) RV and CTC level before taking up the post.

- We analyse critically, Level 3 - Provide evidence of providing communications advice and guidance on sensitive issues influencing strategies and decisions.
- We deliver, support and inspire, Level 2 - Provide evidence of developing and delivering high quality media and digital strategies aligned to corporate objectives built on insight, employing creative content and evaluated for continuous improvement.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.
The Metropolitan Police manage HR for NPCC recruitment.
