This is an opportunity to join the Operations team within the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU) working from premises in Wakefield. You will support teams that proactively investigate serious and organised crime across the Yorkshire and Humber region and beyond. The investigations undertaken by the Operations teams are complex and utilise sensitive tactics to tackle those individuals causing significant harm to the community.

As a Covert Operations Specialist, you will provide expert advice and guidance to SIO’s, Deputies, Case Teams and external partners on evidential requirements, intelligence operations, covert tactics and evidence gathering to achieve operational objectives in line with NPCC standards.

You will develop intelligence and assist in the planning of covert activity targeting those that cause significant harm to the communities within Yorkshire and the Humber.

You will be experienced in the area of covert authorities including RIPA and ensure that relevant records are accurate and recorded in line with national and local practices.

You will prioritise operational security, working with the Operational Security Officer to ensure that working practices and security arrangements within your area of work are regularly assessed and free from risk of compromise.

You will work with first line managers to mentor and support trainee investigators and newly qualified detectives, delivering high quality solutions to their learning and development needs.

You will work with our GAIN to enhance our response to serious and organised crime, building and maintaining relationships across the YHROCU area.
You will manage specialist covert equipment, including vehicles and communication equipment, this responsibility will incorporate management of the relevant budget.

You will be motivated, enthusiastic and have a high standard of professional behaviour.

This role incorporates a Monday to Friday working week, however significant flexibility will be required to support operational activity.

There will be a requirement to complete coaching and mentoring training as well as a number of other specialist courses, please refer to the role profile for further detail.

Experience in the use of covert tactics is advantageous but not essential as there is an expectation that the successful candidate will develop within role.
