Detective Inspector - Gateway (SEROCU)
We welcome applications from substantive PIP2 Detective Inspectors, (and those who have successfully passed a force promotion board and awaiting posting as a Detective Inspector) for the role of Gateway Manager for the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU).
Your role as Gateway Manager includes casting a critical eye on operational work and assessing who is best placed to advise and assist with SEROCU business. You will manage a small, but motivated team based within SEROCU's Sensitive Intelligence Unit.
The Gateway was established in 2019 to manage all internal and external tasks for the commission of SEROCU capabilities. No two days are the same and as the Manager you will be involved in a huge variety of work. This is an incredible development opportunity, due to the level of operational and strategic exposure the role provides.
The role requires good communication and negotiation skills. The Gateway engages daily across the South East with Law Enforcement partners, and senior leaders. There will be a requirement to attend Force and Regional Intel and Tasking meetings, ensuring the team are linked in with SOC operations, providing advice and connecting SOC activity.
A credible working knowledge of covert policing is essential due to the advisory nature of the role. We run a CPD plan for the position, ensuring that you will have a thorough understanding of the capabilities available across law enforcement and in particular within SEROCU and the NCA. This provides an excellent development opportunity to those who have not worked in this area of business previously.
Many meetings are currently held on MS Teams, however there will be a requirement to attend some meetings in person. In addition, the CPD plan will require the candidate to visit other SEROCU capabilities to understand their area of business. This role can be effectively undertaken in a highly flexible manner, therefore it really does afford a good work-life balance.
Please note that this role is part of a national, regional and local network and as a result you may be required to travel for business purposes mainly across the south east region and occasionally throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.
Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary for the successful candidate to obtain and maintain vetting level SC together with a number of enhanced security checks. In order to achieve this, you must be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.
You can find more information about security vetting here.
