Detective Constable Transferees and Re-joiners (LE 2025)

Make your experience count, join Leicestershire Police

At Leicestershire Police we pride ourselves on recognising people with real potential. That’s why we offer our officers so much support, motivation and training because, as they improve, so will our force.

Working across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, you will police in a unique and picturesque setting that balances busy urban centres with rural villages. The people are equally varied and represent a diverse range of ethnic cultural and economic backgrounds.

Whether you want to specialise in a particular area of policing, or progress through the ranks, our experienced leaders can help you to reach your goals. All you have to do is bring us your talent, dedication and enthusiasm and we’ll welcome you to the team.

Leicestershire Police are particularly interested in hearing from you if you are an officer with specialist skills or are a qualified Detective Constable.

If you are high performing and looking for a new challenge, then this could be the place for you. In return, as a police officer transferring from a Home Office Police Force, you will retain:

  • Your previous service and current levels of pay (excluding force specific benefits i.e. London weighting).
  • Annual leave entitlement, as long as there is no break in service.
  • Your current pension arrangements.

Inclusivity is important to Leicestershire Police which is why we are looking for talented individuals to reflect the communities we serve. Whatever your background, ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual orientation, we welcome you and your application.

The must haves

  • Be a member of a Home Office force or Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) or Police Scotland (please note we cannot accept an application to transfer from an officer serving with a non-Home Office police force).
  • If you are a re-joiner, you will be required to undertake a 6-month probation period. If you are re-joining at a different rank or you left your previous force more than 1 year ago, you will be required to undertake a 12-month probationary period.
  • Re-joiners at the same rank will re-enter the service on the pay scale point at which they left their previous force. Officers re-joining at a higher or lower rank will have their pay considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Have a full manual driving licence.
  • Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues
  • To have attained or be in the process of attaining a PIP 2 qualification (PIP 2 or above)
  • Be confirmed in rank. Student officers within their probationary period cannot be considered.

If you have applied previously and were unsuccessful at interview, you must wait a minimum of six months before a further application will be considered.

Please note we reserve the right to close this process at any time, should our required numbers be met.

    What’s in it for you?

At Leicestershire Police, we want to create an environment that puts people first, so you feel supported in everything you do.  We have a range of reward and benefits available to all our employees.
