We are welcoming applications for the role of Alliance Senior Data Protection Advisor with Devon & Cornwall Police based at the following location(s): Police Headquarters, Exeter, Police Headquarters, Winfrith, Dorset 

Salary: Grade 6 - Starts at £32,247 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £35,526 per annum 
Please note that the above salary is based on working 37 hours per week. If this role is part-time or you are appointed on a part-time basis your salary will be prorated to reflect this. Exceptions to starting salary may apply if you are an existing Devon and Cornwall or Dorset Police Staff employee substantively posted to a role at the same grade.

About the role:  

To act as a gatekeeper for all Data Protection issues into the Alliance Data Protection Team.

Direct line supervision supervise the Data Protection Team in delivering compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA). In particular:

  • Ensuring effective prioritisation of tasks (mainly transactional demand such as requests for information (also known as Subject Access Requests) and requests for erasure) to ensure both Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police meet their legislative obligations.
  • Direct supervision of the Alliance Compliance & Information Sharing Officer.
  • Coordinating all complaints from members of the public / staff and, where required, act as the Investigating Officer.
  • Leading the delivery of new police recruit data protection training.
  • Administering team resources to maximise data protection service.
  • Responsible for determining action required for all internal and external data protection requests, escalating when necessary.
  • Supporting the Data Protection and Information Sharing Mangers with specific DPA advisory tasks.
  • Carrying-out the duties as required of the Data Protection and Information Sharing Mangers such as:
  • Processing Data Protection Subject Access Requests from members of the public, in compliance with legislation and policy.
  • Accessing Force systems and other sources of information, obtaining information, either electronic or hard copy, so as to enable the decision-making process on whether information should be disclosed.
  • Personally determining, on a case by case basis, whether the force will supply the requested information, based on an evaluation of the information gathered, any legal constraints and permissions.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive, detailed and fully auditable record of all applications, the decision-making rationale and the result of that decision making, including disclosures made and where appropriate, the reasons for non-disclosure.
  • Keeping abreast of developments in legislation related to the disclosure of personal data.
  • Delivering training and development sessions on data protection. .
  • Providing customer service and advice to the public.
  • Providing specialist advice on compliance issues in relation to data protection.
  • Assisting with the transaction monitoring process.

Selection Stage:

The selection for this role will consist of Shortlisting, Interview.

Pre-requisites:
