Intelligence Manager (Local)

Do you have exceptional leadership skills and experience of managing risks, solving problems or developing intelligence? 

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Intelligence Department to lead the Bristol Local Intelligence Team.  With second line management responsibilities for teams of Intelligence Officers, Analysts and Researchers, you will lead intelligence development operations in Bristol to improve our understanding of some of the most challenging and harmful crime problems affecting the area.  Working across a diverse range of issues including Serious Youth Violence, Child and Adult Exploitation, Serious Organised Crime and Violence Against Women and Girls you will deliver insight and knowledge to support crime investigations and problem solving plans, and support front line policing operations with high quality intelligence products.  You will also develop expertise in managing high risk issues, using covert policing techniques and working with partner agencies.   

As a member of the department’s Senior Leadership Team, you will provide strong and visible leadership and direction to your teams, maximising their development, skills and morale to deliver an effective service.  Working with colleagues within the department, across the organisation and beyond you will lead, manage and oversee the collection, analysis and development of intelligence in line with our control strategy priorities.  

In this role, your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Creating strategies for identifying, assessing and developing our understanding of relevant crime issues, using a full range of techniques in line with Authorised Professional Practice. 
  • Ensuring delivery of intelligence operations and projects to inform decision-making at tactical, operational and strategic levels to mitigate threat, harm and risk. 
  • Providing quality assurance against national standards in intelligence and analysis to ensure risks and opportunities are identified and continuously improve standards. 
  • Influencing and negotiating with key stakeholders (including Chief Officer Group, Senior Investigating Officers and Force Leads) to clarify, scope and deliver requirements, ensuring that intelligence activity aligns with strategic objectives. 
  • Providing effective leadership, strategic direction and line management, coaching, wellbeing and development of staff and officers.  
  • Monitoring and championing the continuous understanding of the local, regional and national threat picture; relevant legislation, force and national policies and intelligence techniques, tactics, best practice and information relevant to the role.  

Skills, experience and qualifications required: 

  • Experience in allocating resources, making risk-based decisions and solving complex problems. 
  • Ability to use a range of communication and influencing techniques and methods. 
  • Proven experience of effectively leading, developing and motivating a diverse team. 
  • Experience of intelligence processes and intelligence led policing approaches.
  • The post holder will be required to hold (or be willing to work towards this) and maintain Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Accreditation.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a 5 year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last 5 years. 

This role requires MV and SC Vetting. 

You will be required to travel to alternative locations on an ad hoc basis to undertake the role, therefore you will ideally hold a full current driving licence.
