Salary: The starting salary is £34,808, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £31,880 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £34,108 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

The Metropolitan Police Service Economic Crime (EC) Command is part of Central Specialist Crime and specialises in the investigation of Fraud and Money Laundering offences and the conduct of Financial Investigations. EC has many and varied strands to tackle some of the most serious offenders and prevent them gaining financially from their crimes. EC manages a wide range of investigations including sensitive, high-profile enquiries that span national and international boundaries. We support BCU, pro-active syndicates and other specialist units with their financial enquiries, cash seizures, asset freezing and confiscations under the Proceeds of Crime legislation. The right candidate will have a positive impact on taking the profit out of crime and making London and the public safer by targeting Serious Organised Crime and High Harm Offenders.
This is an exciting time to be working as a financial investigator for the Metropolitan Police Service.
You will receive training in order for you to become an Accredited Financial Investigator, allowing you to create account freezing orders, apply to a court to seize criminal assets which you will then investigate and help support front line officers with fast time missing person and wanted person financial enquiries.
We are seeking individuals who have an interest in financial crime who are keen to develop their analytical and investigation skills to assist us in seizing criminally gained assets from those who are committing the most serious and harmful criminal offences.
Successful applicants will undertake a 2 year Financial Investigator course, gaining accreditation and career progression to Band D (Accredited FI) and Band C (Confiscator) levels.
As a Financial Investigator, you will be part of a dedicated team of police officers and AFI’s within one of the Economic Crime hubs.
The role
- Investigating allegations of money laundering, tracing assets in the UK and overseas, analysing financial accounts and bank statements and compiling orders under The Proceeds of Crime Act 2002 (POCA) such as Cash Detention/Forfeiture Orders, asset and account freezing orders.
- Production Orders, Restraints and Confiscations. You will review tasking’s from other units and make informed decisions regarding further investigation. You will be expected to progress the applications through to forfeiture and/or confiscation.
- Support court procedures and processes including gaining knowledge and understanding of CPIA disclosure rules.
- Economic Crime is also responsible for generating and conducting investigations from financial intelligence and provides financial investigation support to other specialist departments and syndicates within the Metropolitan Police Service.
