Police Constable Firearms Instructor - Response Model Testing

Our role in protecting the UKs national security is unique, and it is our highly trained National Firearms Instructors that are responsible for delivering key firearms training to our officers. 

The Response Model Testing (RMT) role involves the delivery of approved firearms training in dynamic working environments, and to provide a threat and risk based assessment of the Response Model in place at CNC Policed areas. This includes providing tactical training, delivering regulatory exercises, joint exercising with home office firearms teams, blue light services and any other firearms training as directed by the Chief Firearms Instructor.

You will support, develop, and facilitate the coaching of firearms tactics and weapon handling to a broad range of officers. This role will involve extensive, fully expensed travel to various CNC Policed areas to assess response capabilities against scenarios designed to simulate a ‘Mission Statement’ event, and other events as required. During periods when RMT delivery is not scheduled, you will be based at your local site in a training or operational capacity, dependent on requirements. We have multiple National Firearms Instructor vacancies available, and we offer full training, but you would need to meet one of the below criteria to be eligible to apply:

  • Current and competent National Firearms Instructors from other Police Forces
  • Current or former Police Officers who have been operational AFO/ARV or AFO/CT (ideally within the last 18 months)
  • Current or former National Firearms Instructors from other backgrounds (i.e. Military)
  • Current of former Military Personnel (ideally within the last 18 months), with strong experience of delivering training (i.e. skill at arms/CBRN)

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Previous experience instructing in the classroom/ conducting exercises and ranges such as skill at arms Instructor/Platoon Weapons/RMQ/ SA (B) (18)/ SA (A) (18)/SA (B) (90)/ SA (A) (90) or other relevant qualifications.
  • Recognised teaching qualification.

Location:

This role will involve extensive, fully expensed travel to various CNC Policed areas. When not deployed on Response Model Testing duties, you can be based at any CNC Policing Unit (please see our locations page for all sites, some exclusions may apply). Training:

Your training will be dependent on your previous qualifications and experience, which will be reviewed and discussed with you if you successfully pass screening. Full training will be provided if you are not already a qualified NFI, and you meet the application criteria. All training includes hotel accommodation, food, transport and fuel costs, if required, and you will be paid from day one of your training. 

Police Constable NFIs are required to maintain their Authorised Firearms Officer occupational competence by conducting refresher training as required to maintain competency as operationally deployable firearms officers.
