Firearms Licensing Caseworker

Job Purpose:

To provide a case management and file building function in relation to issue of basic firearm/shotgun certificates ensuring continuity of support and compliance with Force and legislative standards for the firearms licensing process.


Main Responsibilities: 

  1. To update, analyse and interrogate IT record and intelligence systems in accordance with Force policy, Management of Police Information (MoPI) and national guidelines.
  2. Process all grant / renewal applications for certificates through the updating of NFLMS with application details, photos and fees.
  3. To ensure effective processing of basic firearm/shotgun applications and any other certificate maintenance tasks in order to progress the matter to conclusion.
  4. To make an initial assessment of threat of harm and vulnerability and grade each incident in accordance with extant guidelines and Force procedures.
  5. To obtain statements/conduct enquiries by telephone where appropriate.
  6. To undertake other duties commensurate with the nature, level of responsibility and grading of this post, as required.

Person Specification: 

Knowledge:

  • 5 Grade A - C GCSEs (or equivalent) including English

Experience:

  • Previous experience of administration processes
  • Experience of gathering and collating information using appropriate questioning techniques and creating and maintaining accurate records
  • Experience as working as part of a team in a customer service environment, managing a high and varied work load

Key Skills:

  • Proven ability to communicate both orally and in written form with a wide range of people
  • Competent in the use of IT, including Microsoft packages 
  • Proven ability to work under pressure towards deadlines
  • Ability to read and understand complex instructions
