West Yorkshire Police are looking to recruit an Advocate Solicitor with Higher Rights of Audience/ Barrister to join an established in-house team based at West Yorkshire Police HQ. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Legal Services.

Legal Services advises on a range of matters including high profile investigations, civil litigation, public law challenges, inquests, inquiries, employment law, and pro-active operational policing.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Solicitor Advocate, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with Advocacy Certificate. You should be able to demonstrate proven experience in presenting cases in civil and/ or criminal courts.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for providing advice, preparing and representing West Yorkshire Police in a variety of Court and Tribunal settings, including Misconduct Hearings ensuring the integrity and reputation of the Chief Constable is preserved.

Essential Skills for the role:

• Full Practising Certificate (If a Barrister);
• Higher Rights of Audience (if a Solicitor or a Chartered Legal Executive);
• Experience of Civil Litigation and/or Criminal Litigation.
• Knowledge of the law relating to the Police Service (Desirable).

Applicants must have the ability and willingness to travel and work flexibly locally and regionally as and when required.

This post is permanent, full time (37 hours per week), and suitable for job share.
