Wiltshire Police – Superintendent Crime Justice and Vulnerability

The Chief Constable is inviting applications from Superintendents and Substantive Chief Inspectors for a key leadership role as a Superintendent within Crime Justice and Vulnerability. 

As Superintendent, you will be uniquely positioned to implement changes that prioritise safeguarding the most vulnerable people in Wiltshire, addressing root causes of crime in our communities, and work collaboratively with partner organisations.

You will  create a culture of empathy and ownership within our force, ensuring officers are equipped to handle complex cases with compassion and skill. By shaping policies and strategies, you will aim to reduce reoffending, dismantle cycles of vulnerability, and build trust with marginalised groups often wary of the police. You will also focus on early interventions that prevent crime before it escalates.

Ultimately, becoming Superintendent in Crime, Justice, and Vulnerability is about maximising impact, ensuring that no one falls through the cracks of the system and that every person, no matter their circumstances, has access to safety, justice, and hope for a better future

In this application process you will be required to demonstrate: 

  • Experience working at Superintendent or Substantive Chief Inspector rank in policing. 
  • Ability to lead the development and implementation of policy and strategy in own areas of responsibility, in line with force/organisational and national directives.
  • Resource and budget planning for own areas of responsibility, in line with force priorities.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, engage, manage and develop a team of policing professionals and provide leadership to a significant area of command/area of responsibility. 
  • Experience in leading responses to major events and serious/complex investigations, setting strategic/tactical objectives and priorities, assessing and managing threats/risks and directing the deployment of resources.
  • A strong ethical and moral compass, challenging poor performance/behaviours.

The post will be based at Wiltshire Police Headquarters, Devizes. However, the nature of the work will require travel throughout Wiltshire and potentially nationally. It is envisaged the role will be hybrid with two days working in Devizes, two days anywhere in the County and one day remote working.  

You will be required to be part of an on-call Gold Command rota.  When on-call, you will be expected to be within one hour of a Wiltshire Police station location.
