The Role & Key Responsibilities

Surrey RoadSafe is aiming to reduce collisions and casualties on the roads in Surrey and is a joint venture between Surrey Police, Surrey County Council, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, National Highways and the OPCC for Surrey.

This is a new and exciting role within the Surrey RoadSafe team.

In this role you will be the Police lead for the installation and maintenance of road safety camera's across Surrey. This will include working with partner agencies such as Surrey County Council, National Highways, and suppliers.

The successful candidate will also examine potential new sites, assess, and select technology to reduce traffic collisions and casualties and help achieve the aims and objectives of vision zero.

This role will be a specialist in the modern technological advancements such as AI and identify the opportunities to integrate innovative systems in to our existing infrastructure.

Flexitime: 36 hours, 5 day week, normal hours plus evenings and weekends as required. Hours in excess of 36 will be considered for time off in lieu as agreed with the Head of Department.

Skills & Experience

Minimum of Level 2 Engineering qualification to enable professional capability in design, installation, maintenance, and evaluation of Surrey’s Camera technology. Or in lieu of the professional qualification, demonstration of considerable relevant experience.


Experience of report writing, developing, and delivering business planning improvements and information, preferably within a performance management framework.


Experience of developing, implementing, and reviewing procedures and systems to ensure risks are identified and assessed and working practices are safe and compliant within best practice.


Experience of applying project management principles and practice, including the ability to monitor budgets, set timescales and review effectiveness of service delivery.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolves issues independently, plan solutions and make sound pragmatic decisions which will have a direct impact on the service, within the parameter set by the line manager.


Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate with outside companies and agencies for excellent customer service and timely project management. To communicate specifically what is required and ensure that the companies and agencies deliver within the set timescales, professionally and are representing the values and behaviours that the public would expect of them working with Surrey RoadSafe.


Excellent research and judgement skills to analyse and interpret varied and complex technical data and information to produce effective business strategies and identify innovative solutions over the long term.


Ability to travel around Surrey and beyond to carry out responsibilities to the role as necessary.
