Salary: Starting salary from £36,040 plus £6,710 London Weighting per annum

About the team

The Change Portfolio Office has the exciting yet challenging role of overseeing programmes, projects and change initiatives that make up the City of London Police’s portfolio of change, these vary greatly from organisational design, delivering technological advances to national projects and programmes. We are focused on delivering change to meet the future needs of the business and to achieve the ambitions of our Policing Plan.

Key to the successful delivery of this portfolio is the ability to deploy extensive project management skills, professionalising the team and driving a culture of continuous improvement across the force.

The Programme Delivery Team has been recently restructured to refocus on organisational priorities and solidify its approach to future planning. The team is 12-strong, consisting of 12 Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and Co-Ordinators, all based in the Guildhall, City of London (hybrid working is available).

About the role

City of London Police have an ambitious change portfolio focused on delivering transformational change to meet the future needs of the business and to achieve the ambitions of our Policing and Corporate Plans.

The Change Portfolio Office oversees the programmes, projects and change initiatives that make up this portfolio. Our work ranges from smaller departmental changes to force-wide programmes and projects as well as implementing national programme changes into the force.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be:

  • To undertake tasks according to the direction of the Project Manager including preparation of project management tools and assist in the preparation of reports on progress against deliverables and milestones for project governance boards and meeting.
  • To support the Project Manager in the implementation of the project plan and ensure a performance management system is maintained in respect of projects staff.
  • To prepare and check that all project documentation is of a high quality and aligns to organisational documentation standards and templates.
  • To manage all project documentation, ensuring it is version controlled and under configuration management in accordance with agreed filing conventions.
  • To manage project budgets to ensure spend is tracked and profiled as required; raise any potential risk/issue against the project spend and ensure end of year budget procedures are followed.

Requirements

For this role, you will need the following:

  • Recognised and current qualification in project methodologies to foundation level.
  • Understanding and experience of using Microsoft Project
  • Knowledge or ability to learn Microsoft Visio
  • Experience of working in a project environment in a police service, relevant public/government body such as the Home Office or other security related environment which has close connections with policing matters.
  • Experience of working within a team delivering complex goals

Selection Process

As part of the initial application process, you will be asked to evidence how your experience, skills, and knowledge demonstrate your ability to meet the person specification of the role.

The application and interview will be tested under Level 2 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.

Applicants who fail to address the skills/knowledge/experience of the job description will not be considered.
