Cumbria Constabulary is recruiting a full-time permanent Crime Scene Manager (CSM) and applications are invited from both experienced and trainee CSMs with considerable CSI experience. Should the successful candidate not hold a College of Policing accredited CSM qualification, they must commit to attending an accredited CSM training course and completing the CSM Development Plan within the first two years.

In addition to CSM operational duties, the post holder will be a designated CSI Deputy Technical Manager and be expected to support the CSI Technical Manager and carry out all CSI ISO related duties when required. As a CSM Deputy Technical Manager, you will be expected to have a wide range of knowledge and skills, be conversant with the Forensic Science Regulator’s Statutory Code, and associated documents, and be willing to deliver training in a forensic environment. Knowledge and experience of auditing, competency and validation would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be based at Barrow police station but will be required to cover the whole county to meet operational demands, in addition to working a 7-day rota which includes weekend working, out of hours standby duties and extended hours of duty from time to time. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has excellent communication skills, individual resilience and the ability to critically evaluate complex information. The successful candidate must have a high standard of report writing, excellent communication skills across a wide range of people and the ability to lead a team of CSIs during the examination of extensive and complex crime scenes, often in difficult circumstances.

The successful candidate is expected to provide biometric data for the purposes of elimination and is required to engage with annual psychological screening support from Occupational Health. This post is also subject to the enhanced Management Vetting (MV) level.
