Independent Scrutiny and Oversight Board Member
Volunteering for #TeamNP
Our purpose at Team NP is simple: to keep people safe and to fight crime. But it takes more than officers alone to do the job – and that’s where our 2,000-strong team of police staff and 200 volunteers come in.
As one of the top 50 UK inclusive employers and a disability confident employer, we promote a culture of respect in the workplace so everyone can feel seen, heard and valued.
Whether you’re a member of staff or a volunteer, you can also expect first-rate support to manage your health and wellbeing. With year-round events, a 24/7 welfare support hotline and a leading approach to neurodiversity, our initiatives enable you to be at your best.
The Opportunity
Northumbria Police are looking to add members to our Independent Scrutiny and Oversight Board (ISOB) who will support key strategic discussions in shaping a variety of significant pieces of work.
We need your experience, expertise, and informed guidance to the Executive Team to check and challenge our delivery in key performance areas.
We are confident enough to acknowledge areas for improvement, whilst recognising our potential to create real and lasting change to people’s lives.
The fantastic rich and diverse communities in the force area deserve the best possible policing service.
It is vital that we have a strong, credible independent voice to publicly review, report and communicate on our progress to strengthen the service we deliver.
What you will do
As part of this role you will help scrutinise, check, and challenge the Force on the delivery of plans which aim to address some of the key cultural issues facing policing.
You will help shape our strategic direction by acting as a critical friend with an active and independent voice highlighting issues of concern, good practice, and recommendations as we progress our Force to be the absolute best in can be.
One of the first key areas is the delivery of the Northumbria Police Race Action Plan and we would particularly welcome individuals with a passion for championing and advocating on issues of inclusion and race and a credible record in these areas.
As we continue to progress other significant pieces of work, an empathetic and respectful communication approach to understanding the context, culture and history reflected in individual and community perspectives would be welcomed.
If you are motivated by public service and a desire to bring about genuine, positive change then we would be delighted to hear from you.
