This is an exciting opportunity for a Sergeant or PS equivalent to drive forward the Public and Personal Safety Training (PPST) work. A new scenario lead teaching methodology has been introduced and it will be the role of the successful candidate to embed this new way of working. You will be the link between police forces and the College of Policing ensuring forces are supported and have the right direction to enable this new approach to be a success. 

This is an opportunity for a PPST subject matter expert to bring their knowledge into the College for the benefit of all forces. In this post you will oversee the College’s licensing functions in PPST, you will ensure knowledge and good practice is shared, set standards, support professional development, and generate income nationally and internationally. 

PPST is a very specialised area of work that is undergoing a professionalisation process, including trainer standards, curriculum design, nationally agreed training duration and practices, and we need the successful candidate to build on this work and develop a new manual that is credible and auditable. 

You will work with a variety of stakeholders across policing both internally and externally, you and the team will provide associated subject matter expertise to police forces, senior stakeholders, and judicial bodies. The ability to build and maintain relationships is vital.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:
•    Supporting the development, review, and implementation of a national training curriculum to reflect good practice, empirical research, medical advice and lessons learnt. Contributing towards the development and updating of relevant College guidance (e.g. APP, guidelines) as necessary.
•    Providing advice, guidance and subject matter expertise to internal and external stakeholders to promote and support the development of evidence based good practice within specialism and ensure transfer of knowledge/information.
•    Ensuring the professional and timely preparation, organisation and delivery of curriculum, training products & lesson plans, presentations, training and seminars, including Trainers’ CPD events.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:
•    Demonstrable experience of successful design and development of training and/or learning and development products using a variety of evidence-based approaches and delivery solutions. 
•    Previous line management experience 
•    Proven experience of working collaboratively to develop and implement business solutions for all stakeholders
