The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Humberside Police's Serious Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) working within the Specialist Crime Command. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced Detective Constable transferee to join our team.
Serious and organised crime affects more UK citizens than any other national security threat. It leads to more deaths in the UK each year than all other national security threats combined. The Serious & Organised Crime Unit is tasked with reducing the impact and increasing the disruption of serious and organised crime within the Humberside area, we work in conjunction with the Regional Organised Crime Units, UK Border Force, HM Revenue and Customs, the National Crime Agency and the Crown Prosecution Service to combat serious and organised crime.
The hours are typically Mon – Fri 0800-1600 but all team members must be flexible to adjust their working hours around operational demand whilst maintaining a work/life balance.
The selection process will be by way of a 500-word expression of interest demonstrating the skills you will bring to our team, your suitability, qualifications and relevant experience.
Candidates will be considered against this and short listed for a competency-based interview to assess you against the Competency and Values Framework. One vacancy is available immediately. Further vacancies may become available in the next 12 months for which we will retain a pool of successful applicants to be held on succession planning.
Key Responsibilities
Working alongside colleagues, the post holder will be required to:
- Investigate serious and organised crime under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer, managing your own workload.
- Prepare complex case files for CPS / Courts within a timely manner.
- Present evidence competently in protracted Crown Court trials.
- Have a high degree of discretion and understand confidentiality which are key to this role.
Skills & Experience
This post is open to accredited Detective Constables who are Q1 trained, the following skills are essential: -
- A proven and enthusiastic approach to investigations and willingness to develop.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience of complex case management through to Crown Court trials.
- A proven ability to manage a varied workload and have a close attention to detail.
- Comprehensive IT skills and a good knowledge of Police systems.
- A sound knowledge of, legislation and guidance, particularly with regard to CPIA, RIPA & IPA.
- A flexible approach to working hours and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.

To be eligible to transfer to Humberside Police, you must:
- Be a current serving police officer in a Home Office force
- Have no outstanding discipline or integrity issues
- Have resided in the UK for three years immediately prior to submitting your application, or able to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct from the relevant country
- Have successfully completed your probationary period with your Force prior to submitting your application
