Salary: The starting salary is £45,131, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.
The salary is broken down as £42,203 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £47,668. Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

As an Operations Engineer, you’ll play a crucial part in protecting London. You’ll be part of our talented, tight-knit team, helping to develop technical solutions for frontline policing operations. As we expand, we now have a number of vacancies for exciting roles for Engineers and Technicians to join our team of over 150 engineers who support policing London.
Our Operational Support Unit (OSU) tackles a wide range of exciting projects often involving CCTV and video surveillance, but also touching other areas including Live Facial Recognition (LFR) and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD). The Unit supports Internet Protocol (IP) networks, CCNA Routing and Switching, Radio Frequency (RF) and Satellite communications. The unit also uses 3D scanning and printing using the latest design and modelling technologies to help solve problems. Camera technology, and Microprocessors (Arduino and Raspberry Pi) all form part of our teams varied skillset to handle all kinds of technical challenges.
Your work will include testing and evaluating specialist product performance and getting hands-on with surveillance systems, installations, radio transmissions, prototyping and designing unique solutions. You’ll need an appropriate qualification or suitable experience in a technical/IT/Electronics field. Above all, you’ll need a great aptitude for solving problems and technical training will be given where appropriate.
The role can take you across London, so you’ll need a full UK driving licence. You may sometimes be working outside office hours, so you’ll need to be flexible. And while this is an exciting role, your discretion is vital – which includes having or applying for MV/SC security level clearance.

Key Responsibilities -
- Support the OSU in the development of technical solutions for front-line policing operations.
- Provide a hands-on service for technical support of specialist technologies, including surveillance system, video streaming, IP networking, satellite systems, communication and radio transmission systems, design, fabrication, and prototyping.
- To apply a good understanding of technology and technical systems.
- To be accountable for their areas of responsibility and fully discharge their duties in accordance with the demands placed on the section.
- To demonstrate the principles and values of outlined by the Commissioner in the New Met for London plan.
- To act professionally and be well-presented at all times while representing the OSU.
- To be responsible for their own self development and personal effectiveness.
- To be prepared to attend relevant training courses and seminars when required.
- To work as part of a team and to actively integrate into a team building environment.
- To support their management in the undertaking of OSU and MO3 business needs.
- To ensure that all project, service and design related material is kept up to date, accurate and complete.
- Be required to drive Metropolitan Police Vehicles.
- All other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably required by line management in support of OSU and MO3 business needs.

This post requires access to the most sensitive intelligence material on a daily basis. Applicants must hold or be prepared to undergo National Security Vetting (NSV) Security Check (enhanced) (SC(e)) level before taking up the post.
