Volunteer - Chaplains (Forcewide)

Force Wide Vacancies

We are looking for Volunteer Police Chaplains across the Thames Valley Police area. The Chaplain’s role is a supportive and pastoral one offering support to officers and staff.  In this role you will seek to build a relationship of acceptance, friendship and trust with officers and staff and offer a source of comfort during times of stress, however caused.  We don’t have much to do with those who are arrested, or victims.

The strength of the Chaplaincy team lies to a great extent in each member representing the very best of their own tradition or community:

  • You must be known as an Active Listener
  • Secure in your own tradition and able to confidently listen and speak to the wide range of staff who work in TVP.
  • Take direction from the Lead Chaplain, LCU chaplain or other TVP staff as necessary.
  • Be prepared to commit to regular participation in chaplaincy meetings both online and in person.
  • You must uphold the College of Policing Code of Ethics.
  • Someone who is prepared to point away from their own tradition so that a member of staff in need can access appropriate information and/or support.
  • You are the kind of person who can read a room, and is happy to pass by a closed door when the time isn’t right for you to open it.
  • Uphold the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion of all staff so that their workplace remains safe and effective.

To enable us to truly reflect the communities we serve, we are keen to recruit people from other Faith Groups representative within Thames Valley Police, including Humanist. You will need a working knowledge and experience of your Faith/Religion which will enhance the pastoral care of our diverse officers.

Please note you must be resident in the Thames Valley area to apply for this position.

If you have any queries please contact the Recruitment Department at RecruitmentPoliceStaff@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk quoting reference 120225. We will endeavour to respond to your query as quickly as possible.

Please use Google Chrome when completing your application, wherever possible, as this will enhance performance.

The closing date for enquiries and receipt of completed applications is Sunday 16 March 2025

Please note this vacancy will be removed once sufficient candidates have been sourced.

As a volunteer within the police service, you will be subjected to a level of police vetting. The level will be dependent upon the role and it’s access requirements. With the higher levels of vetting, applicants could be asked to provide details of family members, partner, partner’s parents and co-residents, as well as additional information regarding their own personal circumstances. This process is required to ensure that Thames Valley Police comply with the legislation of the Vetting Code of Practice

Whilst we endeavour to complete all vetting within 30 working days of receipt of vetting forms, unfortunately this is not always the case due to operational demand and back-logs, and could take considerably longer.

If you have any concerns or queries regarding your application please do not hesitate to get in touch.
