The Role and Key ResponsibilitiesDo you have what it takes to coach, guide and assess the next generation of Detectives?
Are you passionate about the development of yourself and others and looking for a new, rewarding challenge? If so, this exciting opportunity could be for you.
With the introduction of the Detective Constable Entry Programme (DCEP), Sussex and Surrey Police have recognised the need for a dedicated Coaching Investigation Unit, with the function of supporting our new recruits to achieve full accreditation as PIP2 investigators. With patience, perseverance, coaching and assessing skills, you can be a part of a team that delivers the next generation of Detectives.
This is an amazing opportunity to not only develop the Detectives of the future, to also invest in and develop yourself.
Applications are invited from all PIP2 accredited Detectives and investigating officers who have current operational skills with the motivation and commitment to develop the next generation of Detectives.
Recruitment is currently flexible to meet the demands of the organisation and the projected number of learners, therefore successful applicants will be invited to join the team as the new units grow with increased demand.
You will work alongside CID or SIU units in Sussex, following the shift pattern of your learners. Due to the nature of coaching, there may be some requirement for you to vary your shifts from time to time as well as showing flexibility with attending and supporting other force-wide CIU's where required.
We have a number of vacancies across the force and anticipate more to meet demand, therefore we may look to build a recruitment pool to draw from once the immediate vacancies have been filled. Decisions regarding selection will be made on your written application, professional discussion and desired location(s)
Key Responsibilities
You will coach up to three trainee detectives simultaneously. The trainee detectives will be embedded with and line managed on divisional-based investigative teams, therefore you will need to be able to recognise opportunities for the trainee detectives to become involved with, maintaining good relationships and lines of communication with the appropriate divisional supervisors.
You will be proactive and have the ability to work with minimal supervision, managing conflicting priorities and ensuring all appropriate stakeholders are regularly updated.
Whilst you may hold a minimal investigative workload, you will be responsible for the progression of your learners’ investigations and expected to provide on-going direction and support in collaboration with the divisional supervisors.
