As a Police Officer, no two days are ever the same – the variety of incidents and roles make this an exciting and demanding career. You could:

You’ll begin your journey as a uniform Police Constable, developing the fundamental skills and experience required to succeed. After completing your probationary period, the opportunities for career development and specialisation are endless:
- Train to become a Detective Constable, investigating serious crimes and complex cases.
- Join specialist teams such as counter-terrorism, cybercrime, or public protection.
- Learn new skills and experience new roles such as response driving, becoming an Armed Undefined Officer or a Hostage and Crisis Negotiator

You will join as a uniform Police Constable for the duration of your probationary period. This is to ensure all our new recruits learn the fundamental skills to become an exceptional police officer.
For those who have aspirations to become a detective during their career, be that directly after successful completion of their probationary period, or later on in their career, we will offer support tailored to you from day one. If this is your ambition, please ensure you highlight this on your application form, thus enabling us to provide bespoke support to ensure you are successful.
We offer 4 entry routes into Policing, but don’t worry if you are unsure which route is best for you. The detective pathway is also available through all entry routes identified below once you have completed your probationary period. Policing PLUS 2 year programme – No degree required
Policing PLUS Graduate 2 year programme – Degree required
PCDA – 3 year programme – No degree required – Study for a degree during probationary training
