Job description

The College of Policing is seeking an outstanding, innovative and visionary leader for the new Centre that will tackle violence against women and girls and other public protection offences. You’ll have the unique opportunity to set up the centre and build on the achievements of the Vulnerability Knowledge and Practice Programme, the VAWG Taskforce and the Soteria Joint Unit. You will be able to agree and implement a plan for the Centre and how it will deliver for the public, policing and the government’s Safer Streets mission and ambition to halve violence against women and girls (VAWG) in a decade. 

As a member of the College’s executive team you will work across all of policing and in collaboration with our board, the NPCC and relevant committee leads. You’ll need fantastic stakeholder communication skills, strong political awareness and be able to influence and engage with ministers, senior civil servants and chief constables. We need someone who can navigate policing through complex and high profile critical incidents with national media attention and stakeholder scrutiny. 

We are looking for an experienced senior leader at DCC rank, although we may consider an ACC on promotion, who will champion our Code of Ethics, embed a positive culture which fosters continuous improvement.  

Person specification

The successful candidate will have significant experience in public protection or a related field or a master’s degree. Additionally, you will have exceptional leadership experience in driving organisational change and achieving multiple, complex objectives. With a budget for the centre of around £13 million, political and financial acumen, along with the experience to manage substantial budgets, are essential.
