Applications are sought for the role of Special Constabulary Superintendent within Greater Manchester Police.
This is a challenging but rewarding role and as a senior leader you will set the strategic direction of GMP's Special Constabulary, while representing the force regionally and nationally. Reporting to the Force Thematic Lead for the Special Constabulary, you will be responsible for development within the Special Constabulary; and ensuring that organisational standards are met and agreed objectives are achieved.
You will provide a strategic link between the Specials Senior Leadership Team, the Citizens in Policing Team, and the Force Thematic Lead for the Special Constabulary. You will work with Regular Police supervisors / Police managers to support coordinating the mobilisation of Special Constabulary resources in accordance with Force priorities.
You will assist with the development of a culture, climate and working processes in accordance with the policing code of ethics, and the Force Quality Standards and Behaviour framework.
The successful candidate will have exceptional leadership skills, and experience in performance management and professional development. You will be an effective communicator, possess excellent organisational skills and have a demonstrable commitment to maximising the contribution of the Special Constabulary to achieving Force objectives.
To apply for the role you dont need to be an existing Special Constable, or have previous experience as a police office or in policing although either may be advantageous. The role will however require you to become a qualified/attested Special Constable, and perform operational policing duties expected of a police officer.

1. Describe an occasion when you have demonstrated leadership skills to overcome performance issues. Explain your strategic thinking and decision making.
2. As a senior leader, how will you deliver improvement to Quality, Standards and Behaviour in the GMP Special Constabulary with special attention to performance and development.
3. Outline how will you support and develop the Specials Leadership Team to drive delivery/embedding of the Force Vision over the next 3 years.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 16th February 2025 (at 2359 hrs) and successfully shortlisted applicants will need to be available for interview week commencing 3rd March 2025.
The interview will consist of a presentation and a number of competency based interview questions. The subject of the presentation will be provided at the point of successful shortlisting.
