An exciting opportunity has arisen, where applications are invited from PC/DC's. This is an opportunity for the right candidate to join ERSOU’s Counter Terrorism Dedicated Source Unit.

The successful candidate will contribute towards protecting the public from terrorism and other extremist activity through the provision of appropriate supervisory oversight in relation to the recruitment, management and development of intelligence sources in accordance with the National Intelligence Model, the Manual of Guidance and relevant Codes of Practice To ensure appropriate collection and dissemination of intelligence which meets current requirements and to maintain the safety and security of Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS), also ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of the Dedicated Source Unit and the intelligence obtained. To support and develop individual CHIS handlers and the wider DSU team. To contribute to achieving the vision, purpose and values of ERSOU Policing

The role is wide-ranging and includes;

Under general supervision but often operating independently, be responsible for the recruitment, management and development of Covert Human Intelligence Sources deployed in the areas of Counter Terrorism and Domestic Extremism.

Gather intelligence that contributes effectively towards the Government’s CONTEST Strategy under the four strands of Pursue, Prevent, Protect & Prepare.v Ensure intelligence is obtained ethically, assessed and disseminated appropriately within the CT Network, as well as wider policing and key partners at a local, regional and national level, whilst maintaining the required confidentiality, sensitivity and duty of care to assets.

Knowledge of and compliance with all relevant legislation, guidance, Codes of Practice and protocols appertaining to the use and conduct of Covert Human Intelligence Sources (CHIS).

Recruit CHIS complying with the requirements of the relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

Ethically handle registered CHIS, applying appropriate tradecraft in order to maintain confidentiality and security. Task and deploy sources in accordance with the relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

Complete risk assessments bespoke to the management of individual CHIS as well as operational events, ensuring adequate control measures are in place and that appropriate contingency plans are developed to mitigate against identified risk.

Maintain accurate records by recording all information, action and decisions taken in relation to CHIS on relevant IT systems, and retain all relevant material, thereby contributing towards the effective handling, tasking and management of CHIS capable of withstanding scrutiny.

Evaluate the reliability, accuracy and quality of intelligence submitted using the correct national assessment processes, to enable appropriate action to be taken.

Provide specialist advice and knowledge to colleagues, partners and agencies to support the achievement of organisational objectives and enable compliance with organisational policy.
