Police Constable
As a Police Constable for the Royal Falkland Islands Police you will be in the unique position of being able to make a positive difference in the community and be at the very heart of making life safer and happier for everyone.
The Role
This role is varied and rewarding but also challenging, it will provide opportunities to develop both personally and professionally and help shape the future of the Royal Falkland Islands Police.
Demonstrating effective communication and inter-personal skills and guided by procedures you will build a rapport with our community whilst showing empathy and offering advice where necessary. We are looking for someone to work as part of a dedicated team that provides a 24/7 police service to the Falkland Islands community, you will help reduce crime, provide a reassuring presence and contribute to the prevention of incidents through thorough investigation and detection.
The Person
Applicants should have established policing skills and experience within a UK police service but should not be more than 36 months out of policing and hold a full, clean driving licence.
The Package
Fixed Term Contract, up to 4 years.
Competitive Salary – From £28,482 per annum up to £35,172 per annum depending on qualifications and experience with an additional 10% Flexible Duty Allowance.
Eligibility for a 25% Gratuity (taxable).
30 days paid annual leave.
Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
Flights Package for you and any recognised dependents residing with you at post both at the beginning and end of contract, along with additional annual return flights contingent on the duration of the contract.

The Falkland Islands

Operational Matters
• Prevent and detect crime, preserve the peace and protect and serve the general public
• Undertake community policing initiatives and develop an understanding of Falkland Islands culture
• Carry out foot and mobile patrols
• Report and investigate crime
• Act as desk officer in a control room
• Gather and report intelligence
• Provide help and assistance to the general public
• Supervise detained persons and act as custody officer if required
• Receive telephone calls and emails in relation to general policing matters and take the appropriate action
• Liaise with external agencies and utilise the JESIP principles when required.
• Undertake specialist training as required (e.g. ABE (Achieving Best Evidence/Firearms/OST/TASER/tier 2 and 3 investigative interviewing).
• To perform the role of tutor constable if required to student officers.
• Attend in-house/external training
• Work with variety of agencies and stakeholders to develop working relationships to aid joint
working • Use the National Decision-making Model to aid decisions making
• Respond and deal with a variety of emergency situations
• Acceptable written and verbal communication skills
• Use the policing plan to prioritise workload
• Accept feedback and be able to learn lessons
• Give evidence in court when required
Administrative Matters
• Take statements and be computer literate with an ability to type reports
• Update relevant RFIP records.
• Be able to generate incident logs, record data accurately and deploy resources. Risk assesses situations and update force wide incident logs.
• Be aware of and use force policies and comply with legislation and standards of good practice
• Be aware of RFIP and FIG policies on equal opportunities, health and safety and data protection, Demonstrate a commitment to a duty of care and take appropriate action to comply with health and safety requirements at all times.
